TEHRAN –
Managing director of the National Petrochemical Company
announced that in view of current plans, Iran’s
petrochemical industry will face no problem in terms of
marketing products for 20 years to come.Addressing a
ceremony marking the 40th anniversary of establishment of
Iran’s petrochemical industry, Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh,
added that products of most petrochemical projects are sold
to international customers in advance.
“Based on
policies adopted by Oil Ministry, developing South Pars gas
field to 25 phases and achieving a production capacity of 28
million cu. m. gas, and finally after producing ethane,
methane and LPG as well as one million barrels gas
condensate, needed feed for petrochemical industry will be
supplied for many years,” he added.
The official went on to note that according to plans made
for the next 10 years, the value of petrochemical products
will hit over 20 billion dollars and Iran will become the
world’s biggest ethylene producer.
Nematzadeh further noted that Iran’s annual ethylene
production will reach 12 million tons by 2015 while, at the
moment, the world’s biggest ethylene production company
yields only 9 million tons of the product.
“We have tried to transfer needed technical know-how and out
technology could become indigenized over the next 10 years,”
he said.
The official added that on the verge of the 40th anniversary
of establishment of the Iranian petrochemical industry, weak
management on the part of domestic contractors and low
productivity are major challenges facing the sector. |
