Istanbul will host on
December 8-9 "The International Conference
on Islamophobia" organized by the Union of
NGOs of the Islamic World (UNIW).
Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan
will open the conference that will address a
wide scale of topics covering the phenomenon
such as the role of media in promoting
Islamophobia, international terrorism and
its reflections on Muslims, the movie sector
and Islamophobia, the problem of
misrepresentation and Islamophobia as a
human rights issue.
Other topics will cover the role of the
Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and
similar organizations toward Islamophobia,
Islamophobia as the consequence of
unemployment and economic problems in
non-Muslim countries, the attitude of Global
Powers toward Islam and Muslims and the
immigrant Muslims and Islamophobia as well
as a host of other relevant issues.
Meanwhile, UNIW Secretary General Necmi
Sadikoglu said they would set up a union for
monitoring events in the member states to
provide the UNIW with immediate relevant
reports that will be later reported to
officials.
More than 150 thinkers and
scientists, from the Muslim world are taking
part to discuss 60 papers. It is expected to
be attended by more than 1,000 of academics
and media men and civil society
representatives. The OIC Secretary General,
professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu will address
the opening session.
