The World Ahlul Bayt Islamic League (WABIL) has expressed
its support to the latest statement of the Archbishop of
Canterbury regarding Muslim Personal Law. In a statement
issued by the president of the league H. E. Sayyed Mohammad
Musawi he said: It is part of religious freedom to allow
Muslim believers to use the Muslim Personal Law in their own
personal lives. This does not mean going away from the law
of the land, but supports the law which confirms the
religious freedom. He added that the British economy has
adopted Islamic banking and financial Sharia system without
any objections from anyone. So why is it that when it comes
to personal law we hear emotional reactions against the
intellectual views of the Archbishop? He added, "We believe
that the British and other western societies need to know
more about the aspects of Muslim Personal Law before a
proper public opinion can be formed. We need wider dialogue
circles among intellectuals and learned people, as well as
the media and politicians.
